Which skills are in demand? Which skills will help you survive in this fast paced times driven by automation? A skill is learning to carry out a task with pre-determined results often within a given amount of time, energy, or both. Skill usually requires certain environmental stimuli and situations to assess the level of skill being shown and used. (Source: Wikipedia)Based on a survey done in September 2019 following skills will be most in-demand in the coming years:

  • Cross-cultural competency: Cross-cultural competency is the ability to operate within different cultural settings and it will be needed to succeed in work and business as work, workplace, and teams become increasingly global.
  • Design mindset: Design mindset is also going to be key. If you are able to develop tasks and work processes that create desired outputs, you will be in demand. This is crucial because the design mindset is always on the lookout for solutions for the problems. As this is the type of skill that is not learned in school or college, it will become a key differentiator for those who possess it.
  • Novel and adaptive thinking: Novel and adaptive thinking is proficiency at thinking and coming up with solutions and responses. This is very similar to Design mindset and will create unique qualities of performance and output.
  • Sense-Making: The ability to determine the deeper and actual meaning or significance of things which also means being able to see and decode the patterns behind.
  • Social Intelligence: Social intelligence is the capacity to know oneself and to know others. The skills and ability to connect to others in a deep and direct way, to stimulate reactions and desired interactions will also be in high demand. Team influencers and leads that possess social empathy and ability to motivate the team members to peak performance.
  • Computational Thinking: Data is king and will continue to be king for many years to come. Data is used everywhere for workforce planning. Hence, people who possess computational thinking abilities will be in high demand. Their ability to translate vast amounts of data into abstract concepts and meaningful interpretations that can create patterns of consumer or human behaviors will help the business create models of revenue that never existed before.
  • Virtual Collaboration: Those who have strong abilities to work productively, drive engagements and demonstrate presence as a member of a virtual team will also be in greater demand than those who do not.
